Don't Let the Flu Bug Get You Down

Every year, many people are struck down by a common nemesis. That evil is influenza. The yearly strains of flu hit people  . While it’s true that in some cases, the flu can be deadly, it’s usually mundane. Dangerous cases of the flu tend to affect the very young or the very old who have compromised immune systems. They should naturally take care to avoid the flu. For everyone else, the flu tends to be a troubling annoyance. The sniffling and coughing makes work or school near impossible to complete with normal efficiency or joy. Since there’s no cure for the flu, the best thing you can do is help your body recover from it as quickly as possible. These tips can help you get through the worst of the flu and back on your feet in no time.

1 - Rest at Home

Many people try to power through their flu in an effort to not let down their business. The problem with that is that the body needs rest so that it can fight off the flu. Spending your time active means that it can’t devote the energy it needs to fighting the flu. What’s worse is that you are very likely passing on the flu to other people who have to suffer from it. A company with cubicles is used to having the flu spread like a wave down through workers for this reason. Stay home and get healthy quicker.

2 - Stay Hydrated

When you were a kid and your parents told you to drink plenty of fluids, it was great advice! It’s important because hydration and liquids help the respiratory system. The flu causes thick mucus build up. By drinking lots of liquids, this mucus can be broken down into a thinner substance that you can cough and get out of the body. It may not feel great, but it’s important!

3 - Treat Symptoms

A fever is a symptom of a flu, but it’s a good symptom. People get a fever because the body is working hard to eradicate an illness. That being said, if you are suffering from a fever, you’re probably not feeling comfortable. Over the counter medicines should be more than enough to help bring the fever down to a more comfortable level (always check with a doctor/pharmacist and read labels). What’s more, it will help with the body aches that also seem to accompany a fever. Coughs should be handled too. Cough medicine can help stop the repetitive coughing and help give a flu victim a little bit of a break.

4 - Steam Is Your Friend

People who are still suffering from being stuffed up in the nasal passages can benefit from steam. There’s a few ways to do this. Sitting in a bathroom with a steamy hot shower going can provide some nice moist steam. Another option is to get a humidifier or mist humidifier. This can raise the basic level of moisture in the air, which helps keep nasal passages clear and reduce the issues with symptoms.

5 - Salt Can Help

Obviously, this isn’t referring to consuming a bunch of salty foods or table salt. Saline drops are salt water solutions that can be had over the counter from different pharmacies. Saline drops are placed up the nose, which help loosen the mucus, which can then be blown out. The same works for saline sprays. This unblocks one side of the nose. Following the same procedure on the other side can completely loosen nasal mucus.
