Almost everyone is taking better care of themselves these days. One of the reasons people are doing better is that they can see tangible results. There are more ways to track our health and fitness. When people see tangible results, they go ahead and work harder. When there’s a posted “best”, it’s in people’s natural instincts to try and beat it.
Personal health monitors are broken up into several different categories at this point. These tend to break down to trackers, watches, and bands. There are some subsets, but these tend to cover almost all personal health monitors that you can find on the current market. The goal of all is to assist with increasing people’s health.
Fitness Trackers
Fitness trackers were some of the first personal health monitors that came onto the market. Fitness trackers do less to examine your health, and more to monitor the activities that you are undertaking.
Fitness trackers often started as step counters. These performed a single function and they did it well. Modern fitness trackers still tend to aim for a single thing, but it’s more impressive than the basic step counters. Most fitness trackers are focused on running. They will track and analyze a variety of information and analytics to help you determine your optimal exercising.
Fitness trackers tend to be on the low end of prices when it comes to personal health monitors. Many of them cost approximately in the $70 to $130 range. A lot of them lack displays and require the information to be downloaded, or have the item synced to another device.
Fitness Bands
Fitness bands have come to the forefront with the Fitbit brand having taken control of the wristband market. These often started as fitness trackers but have continued to evolve. Now, fitness trackers keep track of everything. A lot of them can even differentiate what kind of activity is being done just by the movements and GPS tracking.
Fitness bands can do a lot. They track steps and movement through GPS. They also have heart rate monitors so people who are working out can check and see where they stand.
One place where fitness bands have improved is in their sleep tracking. Sleep trackers are incredible for people who are waking up and not feeling rested. Sleep tracking will determine how many times you are disturbed and how many times you truly wake up each evening. This can help you breed better sleeping habits and determine when there are actually problems.
Fitness Watches
The final step and most expensive type of personal health monitors is the fitness watch. These sports watches are multi-purpose. They tend to do everything that trackers and bands do. However, in addition, they also provide you with large displays. They will sync with your smartphone as well. Different watches have different compatibility. This means you can’t use every watch with every phone. Most of the good ones are capable of syncing with most phones, however. Prices for fitness watches tend to be higher. They can range from $250 to $450. That being said, you get what you pay for with a fitness watch.
